Reimagining Sex Education

Reimagining Education Institute
In the workshop, we made the case for a racial justice lens in sex education, provided recommendations for doing so, and highlighted some Black sex educators already doing that work. Participants were asked to participate in two sample activities. They asynchronously built a collective word map considering the question, “how do race and racism impact our experiences with sexuality?,” and analyzed a race and sexuality timeline that illustrated the connection between racial justice and sexuality.

Teachers College and Re/Scripted collaborated to put together a week long sex education program for third, fourth, and fifth graders. We facilitated sessions on gender, puberty, and consent, while supporting students in building a cumulative art project.
